The route
A flat, easy walk down the Kali Gandaki valley, past Thini village, to Marpha, a neat whitewashed village famous for apples and brandy.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Marpha is a good place to rest. Try the apple products and look at the village monastery.
Common questions
- What is Marpha known for? Its apples and the stone-paved lanes of the village.
- Is the walk windy? In the afternoon, yes. Go in the morning.
Reverse direction
Walking Marpha to Jomsom is the same trail in reverse and means a net climb, so allow more time than the walk down and set a slower pace.
