The route
The trail continues through Banthanti and Nangge Thanti, climbing through rhododendron forest to Ghorepani. The forest is spectacular in spring when the rhododendrons bloom.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Ghorepani is cold at night. Bring warm clothes and a headlamp for the sunrise climb.
Common questions
- When do the rhododendrons bloom? Mostly in March and April.
- Is the forest wet? Yes, often. Rain gear is useful.
Reverse direction
Walking Ghorepani to Ulleri is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
