The route
The route passes Chamje and Tal, where the valley flattens and the river runs wide. It then climbs to Dharapani, where the trail joins the Manaslu route.
Altitude and health
This section stays below about 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is unlikely, though heat, humidity and fatigue still matter. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Tal is the first village in the Manang district. Check permits at the checkpost in Dharapani.
Common questions
- Where does the Manaslu trail join? Near Dharapani, where the Manaslu Circuit finishes.
- Is Tal worth a stop? Yes. It is on a wide, flat part of the river and is a pleasant lunch stop.
Reverse direction
Walking Dharapani to Jagat is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
