The route
The trail passes through forest and then opens out. Mani walls and chortens line the route, and Manaslu appears for the first time as you reach Lho.
Altitude and health
Part of this section is at or above 3,000 m, so altitude sickness is possible. Walk slowly, drink water, avoid alcohol and tell your guide about headaches, nausea or poor sleep. Descend if symptoms worsen. Altitudes vary by a few tens of metres between maps and guidebooks.
Tips
Lho has a monastery and the first great views of the peak. Take your time and enjoy the stop.
Common questions
- Is Lho a good stop? Yes. It has views of Manaslu and a monastery.
- Is the altitude a concern? Above 3,000 m, yes, so go slowly.
Reverse direction
Walking Lho to Namrung is the same trail in reverse. It is usually quicker because it is mostly downhill, but a long descent is hard on the knees, so poles help.
